Amy is home today as the school district gives her a four-day weekend.  That's the beginning and the end of the story.  I've learned my lesson.  I was having some strong narrative tendencies there for a while, but common sense has gotten the better of me.  Writing projects die slow deaths on days like this.  Good intentions and ideas are nibbled to nothing by interruptions.

Number of sentences in that last paragraph: 6.  Number of interruptions while writing it: 5.

So instead I go digging through a box of old photographs.

Whole other part of my brain, puttin' up pictures.  Feels good.

'Course, now that they're up I feel compelled to talk about them.  But no, we'll just stick with the visual language.

Okay, I'm off to play in the sand now.

today's wisdom:

"There is no man more pusillanimous than I when I am planning a campaign.  I purposely exaggerate all the dangers... that the circumstances make possible.  I am in a thoroughly painful state of agitation.  This does not keep me from looking quite serene in front of my entourage.
